About the procedure
Otoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia. The scars are discreetly placed behind the ears, making them nearly invisible. Patients go home the same day as the procedure.
Before the surgery
Based on each patient’s unique features, we discuss and explain the different approaches to achieve the best possible result. The assessment considers the appearance and placement of the ears, as well as the amount of skin and cartilage that may need to be removed. We also explain the various techniques and walk you through the procedure.
Technique
In an otoplasty procedure, skin and cartilage are removed. For prominent ears, the cartilage is reshaped and stabilized with small dressings, which are removed after three days. In cases of ear reduction, excess skin and cartilage are typically removed. The scars are always placed discreetly.
During the surgery
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, ensuring that you remain pain-free throughout and can go home the same day.
After the surgery
In the first few days, you may feel some tightness and pulling in the sutures, but the discomfort is usually mild enough to be managed with over-the-counter pain relief, such as Alvedon. You’ll be given any necessary medications to take home with you. A follow-up appointment with your plastic surgeon typically takes place one week after the surgery. Post-surgery, the scars are usually very discreet and tend to fade nicely into small, thin white lines.
Complications
As with any surgery, there is always a slight risk of complications, such as infection or bleeding. Occasionally, thicker, more visible scars may form.

Price
We have chosen not to have a fixed price list, as each patient is unique with individual needs. In most cases, it’s only during the consultation that we can determine, together with you, which procedure(s) will be best to achieve a beautiful final result. With us, in addition to the surgery cost, anesthesia, medications, follow-up visits, compression garments, and bras are included, as well as, in most cases, at least one overnight stay after the surgery.
In general, all prices are shown inclusive of VAT, as all procedures and treatments except those performed for medical reasons have been subject to VAT since the beginning of 2014. In cases where the price is shown exclusive of VAT, this is because these procedures are always performed on medical grounds. (Price below includes VAT)
