About the procedure
The procedure is performed on both men and women, with lasting results as long as no significant weight is gained afterward. A tummy tuck is often combined with liposuction of the abdomen, hips, waist, and back to achieve a symmetrical result around the entire torso. Liposuction involves injecting a saline solution mixed with local anesthesia into the fatty tissue, after which the fluid and fat are suctioned out using cannulas.
The injected fluid helps to better shape the areas targeted for liposuction, reducing the risk of irregularities while also minimizing bleeding and swelling during recovery. At Victoriakliniken, we use various types of cannulas and equipment to ensure the best possible conditions for a smooth, even result.
Before the surgery
Before the procedure, we discuss the different methods available to achieve the best result based on the patient’s natural characteristics. The plastic surgeon assesses the amount of excess fat and evaluates the patient’s skin quality. We also provide information on the various techniques we use to optimize contouring and explain each step of the procedure in detail.
We recommend undergoing 2–4 endermology or LPG treatments before surgery, as these stimulate and open up the lymphatic channels. This helps create better healing conditions by allowing waste products from the surgery to be effectively transported away.
Technique
The procedure typically begins with liposuction of the back, waist, and abdomen, where a total of two to four liters of fat and fluid are usually removed. An incision is then made along the bikini line, and the abdominal skin along with fat tissue is loosened. The abdominal muscles, often stretched, are tightened along the midline and sutured in a process known as rectus plication. Excess skin and fat are then removed. The total volume removed depends on body structure and weight but usually amounts to about 5% of body mass.
The incision is always placed as discreetly as possible, just above the hair-bearing area, and typically extends like a high-cut bikini line toward the hip bones. Victoriakliniken has developed a technique using very low incisions. By taping the incision for six months, scars usually become thin and refined.
During the surgery
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, meaning you will be asleep and pain-free throughout the surgery. If you have undergone a full tummy tuck combined with liposuction, you will stay at the clinic for two nights.
After the surgery
After the surgery, you can expect some swelling and discomfort, which typically peaks on the second or third day and then gradually subsides. Pain relief medication will be provided for you to take home. After one to two weeks, you’ll return for a follow-up to check the wound. We use dissolvable sutures, so there’s no need for stitch removal. This special suture, called Quill, reduces the risk of widened or noticeable scarring, based on our experience.
To reduce swelling, it is important to wear a compression garment day and night for three weeks after the surgery, and then at night for an additional three weeks. Another way to minimize swelling is by undergoing endermology/lymphatic drainage therapy both before and three to four weeks after the surgery. We recommend two treatments prior to the procedure and four treatments post-surgery.
Results
Bruising may occur but usually disappears within a couple of weeks. Massaging the skin, maintaining a good diet, staying hydrated, and avoiding nicotine products also accelerate the healing process and ensure the best possible final result. The results are generally long-lasting after the surgery.
Possible Complications
As with any type of surgery, there is always a risk of complications with liposuction, such as infection, bleeding, or seroma. However, the most common issue is unevenness. Depending on the quality of the skin, this can sometimes be difficult to assess in advance.

Price
We have chosen not to have a fixed price list, as each patient is unique with individual circumstances. Moreover, it is often only during the consultation that we can determine together with you which procedure(s) are suitable to achieve a beautiful final result. With us, in addition to the surgery cost, anesthesia, medications, follow-up visits, compression garments, and bras are included, as well as, in most cases, at least one overnight stay after the surgery.
In general, all prices are shown inclusive of VAT, as all procedures and treatments except those performed for medical reasons have been subject to VAT since the beginning of 2014. In cases where the price is shown exclusive of VAT, this is because these procedures are always performed on medical grounds. (Price below includes VAT)
